Below are the UK standards for the Bolognese and Havanese


The Bolognese British Interim Standard

GENERAL APPEARANCE
Small white toy dog with square, compact outline and distinctive coat

CHARACTERISTICS
Intelligent, companionable

TEMPERAMENT
Reserved

HEAD AND SKULL
Wide flat skull. Nose to stop slightly shorter than from stop to occiput. Accentuated stop. Nose large, black

EYES
Large, round, dark with well pigmented rims

EARS
Set on high, long, pendulous carried away from head giving a broad appearance to head

MOUTH
Jaws level, with perfect, regular scissor bite, i.e. upper teeth closely overlapping the lower teeth and set square to the jaws

NECK
Clean, medium length

FOREQUARTERS
Shoulders well laid, legs straight with slightly sloping pasterns. Elbows close to body

BODY
Well sprung ribs, brisket reaching to elbows making half overall height at withers. Level back, loins slightly arched. Point of shoulder to point of buttock equals height at withers

FEET
Oval, black nails and pads. Dew claws customarily removed

GAIT/MOVEMENT
Normal and smart. Legs moving parallel. Ambling highly undesirable

TAIL
Set on at level of croup carried curved over back. Well feathered

COAT
Long, flocked without curl covering entire head and body. Shown in natural state

COLOUR
Pure white without markings, not even simple shadings. Lips, eyelids, nose and nails black

SIZE
Dogs 27-30.5cms (10 ½ins - 12ins.) Bitches 25.5-28cms (10ins -11ins.)

FAULTS
Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree

NOTE
Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum

The Havanese British Interim Standard

GENERAL APPEARANCE
Small, sturdy, slightly longer in body than height at withers. Profusely coated, tail carried in plume over back.

CHARACTERISTICS
Lively, affectionate and intelligent.

TEMPERAMENT
Friendly, outgoing.

HEAD AND SKULL
Nose to stop and stop to occiput to be equal in length, skull broad, slightly rounded, moderate stop. Muzzle not snipey or blunt, cheeks flat. Nose and lips solid black, although for brown shades the pigment may be brown.

EYES
Dark, large, almond shaped, gentle expression, eye-rims black. In brown shades eyes can be a slightly lighter colour, eye-rims brown.

EARS
Moderately pointed and dropped, set on just above eye level, slightly raised, neither fly away nor framing the cheeks.

MOUTH
Jaw strong with perfect regular scissor bite, i.e. upper teeth closely overlapping the lower teeth and set square to the jaws.

NECK
Medium length

FOREQUARTERS
Legs straight, medium bone. Shoulders well laid.

BODY
Equal in height from withers to elbow as from elbow to ground. Slightly longer from point of shoulder to point of buttock than height at withers, level topline, slight rise over loin, well sprung ribs, with good tuck-up.

HINDQUARTERS
Medium boned, moderate angulation.

FEET
Small, tight, hare foot.

GAIT/MOVEMENT
Free springy step, legs moving parallel along the line of travel.

TAIL
Set high, carried over the back; profusely feathered with long silky hair.

COAT
Soft, silky, wavy or slightly curled, full coated with an undercoat.

COLOUR
Any colour or combination of colours permissable.

SIZE
Ideal height 23-28cm (9-11 ins)
