IRENE & JANICE EVENDEN are the mother and daughter partnership of Kashima Bolognese. Both were brought up owning Pekingese, but in 1976 they were granted the 'Kashima' prefix from the Kennel Club and began showing Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Japanese Chin, and King Charles Spaniels. Campaigning at the shows started out in a small way and one of their Japanese Chin attained Champion status as well as a French Champion in the Cavaliers, further successes saw many Best of Breeds and a number of Challenge Certificates and Reserve Challenge Certificates at most of the main UK Championship shows.

After reading an article about the Bolognese in the 'Our Dogs' paper in 1993, they fell in love with the breed. A new chapter opened for the Kashima's with the arrival of 'Shiarita White Frock Coat at Kashima', 'Rags' to his many admirers and friends. He has won many Best Imported Registers at the shows, becoming Top winning Bolognese four years running, he has been a fine ambassador for the breed in this country.
UPDATE 2006 - Sadly Rags passed away July 1st 2006 aged 13 years 3 months, but leaves behind him his great grand-daughter with us Kashima Carina, who we hope will continue to help restore this wonderful breed in a small way.

In 1997 Mrs Barbara Benerson of the 'Tammylan Kennel' decided to emigrate to Cuba and entrusted Janice & Irene with her lines. This generated a wonderful opportunity to marry both the 'Tammylan' and 'Shiarita' lines thereby widening the gene pool. So along came 'Tammylan Dinaria' 'Dina', 'Tammylan Fionda' 'Daisy', and last but not least came along 'Liza' 'Tammylan Liza', thus forming the Kashima Bolognese foundation, and the hope to restore this beautiful breed back to its former self, such as depicted in the ancient artworks.

Our Dogs
Kashima Bolognese only have 2 females now Carina and Madelena who live in our home with us as full members of our family, and are true loyal beloved pets. We may only breed the occasional litter whenever we want to produce another excellent type for the show ring. Occasionally we may have some pups for pet homes, but this would happen very rarely. Any puppies we do have are reared within the home environment, as they grow they become familiar with all household noises. They meet lots of people, play with the family children, and mix with our other dogs. On the rare occasions that puppies may leave us to go to their new homes, they are well adjusted and socialised ready to face the world
